The World in His Hands

Is idolatry mere ignorance or outright rebellion? What is idolatry, after all? What is an idol? Isn’t an idol anything that draws our attention and adoration away from the one true and living Lord?

In the Old Testament, the Lord sent countless prophets to warn His people of the allure of idols and the dangers of idolatry. In many of our daily Bible readings so far, we have learned of pagan practices, false fertility gods, graven images and other worldly distractions. What sorts of idols draw our attention today?

The Lord repeats often in His Word that He will share His glory with no other. Only He is worthy of dominion, worship, honor and praise. Jehovah Almighty has vowed to reveal His Lordship among all the peoples of the earth.

"Turn to Me and be saved,
all you ends of the earth;
for I am God, and there is no other.

By Myself I have sworn,
My mouth has uttered in all integrity
a word that will not be revoked:
Before Me every knee will bow;
by Me every tongue will swear.

They will say of Me, 'In the Lord alone
are righteousness and strength.'

All who have raged against Him
will come to Him and be put to shame.

But in the Lord all the descendants of Israel
will be found righteous and will exult.”

(Isaiah 45:22-25, NIV, emphasis added)

May God be glorified globally, drawing the hearts of all men to His own. For there is no other who merits our worship and trust.

Here’s a poem the Lord gave me today. May these words confirm your heart in His love.

Only One Merits True Favor

Honest hearts reveal

A courteous scrutiny,

Toppling false worship.

ONLY ONE MERITS TRUE FAVOR.

Toppling false worship,

A courteous scrutiny

Reveals honest hearts.

Will you pray with me?

Oh, Lord,

Only You are

Honest and honorable,

Truthful and triumphant.

Reveal Your glory

In all the earth,

So that those who know You not

May be drawn to You.

As You have foretold,

May every knee bow before You

To give You the praise You deserve.

May every tongue be loosed

To sing in worship

To only You.

Amen.
