Do
you ever sense the presence of angels, even though you cannot actually perceive
them? That may sound like a contradiction of terms, but people of faith may
understand. The unseen world is real, even if we aren’t exactly aware of it all
the time.
Maybe
that’s why I am so struck by this 18th century nativity painting.
The Virgin Mary holds her beautiful baby, embraced by glorious light and a bevy
of lovely angelic beings.
If
God were to draw back the curtain of earthly mortality, even for a moment, what
more might even we be allowed to see?
