Does God answer prayer?
That sounds like a
simplistic question. Of course, He does. Doesn’t He? Well, does He?
If you’ve stuck around
in Christian circles long enough, you’ve probably heard the teaching that say
God answers prayer in three ways: “Yes,” “No,” and “Not Yet.”
That may be true.
But what about
today’s Bible promise?
If you abide in Me,
and My
words abide in you,
you will ask what you desire,
and it shall be done for you.
(John 15:7, NKJV).
Doesn’t that sound
like Carte Blanche? Can the believer REALLY ask God for anything he or she
wants … and expect to receive it? What about a spiffy sports car, a date with a
movie star, a mega-mansion in the priciest part of town, or even a winning
lottery ticket?
Wait a minute.
If God’s
words truly do abide in us, will those things still top our prayer lists?
Hmm … maybe that’s
something to think about.
And maybe, just
maybe, that mansion will be in an even better Neighborhood. Even then, I’m
guessing one look at the Lord’s glorious face in person will make the rest of
the scenery matter a whole lot less.
