God
is in the business of freeing captives. He always has been.
What
about when kids choose dangerous friends or cozy up to peers who rebel against
God or seem to ignore Him altogether? As a parent, have you ever felt like your
children are stuck in the clutches of evil’s company?
We
certainly have. Honestly, I believe anyone is redeemable in the Lord’s hands.
Some people simply seem extra scary. Perhaps it’s the way they parade their
outright disdain for God and His ways. One of our kids (not long ago) began
spending an inordinate amount of time with a handful of young people who
boasted openly about their very risky behaviors and their tangles with local
law enforcement. Sure, most of these stories turned out to be embellished
greatly, but their chosen path was evident.
Thank
God, He snatched our dear one from this scary circle. And He poked my heart
until I started praying regularly for some of these other kids, who seem to be drifting
without direction and driving headlong into deeper dangers.
Is God able to turn this trouble around?
Absolutely.
Rescuing the rebellious and those who reject Him is the Lord’s specialty. If
you are a believer, then you have experienced this miracle firsthand already.
He did it for us, and He can do it for our kids who need to know Him as well.
But this is what the Lord says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save.” (Isaiah 49:25, NIV)
Victorious One, we plead for the
freedom of our children. Break patterns of rebellion for Your Name’s sake. Be
honored by their hearts, as You transform them and lead them into Your family of
faith. If they already followed You, but have turned aside, draw them back. Contend
with those who would lead them into temptation and soul peril, and save them
for Your Kingdom. We ask in
faith and in the name of our wonderful Lord, Your Son Jesus Christ.
