When my oldest was about a year and a half
old, we went to visit my folks, as we often did. Soon after arriving, we sat in
the living room to chat and catch up. This little tyke toddled and rambled
around, exploring all of the pretty pictures and figurines and other
curiosities on various shelves.
It was inevitable of course, despite our
countless warnings and jump-ups to place fragile items out of reach. She picked
up a hand-painted china candy dish and began carrying it across the room. And
you know the rest of that story.
I apologized all over myself, as I knelt to
pick up the pieces. Clearly, this was a costly item, now shattered.
Immediately, the forgiveness poured out, as grandparent hands helped to clean up the shards of fine china.
Isn’t that just like God? God’s grace picks up our broken pieces. He mends our shattered lives. It has always been so. How He
longs to show His grace to His children and to implant His gracious character
into us.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. (2 Peter 3:18, NIV)
Gracious God,
we thank You for the loving forgiveness You offer. Your grace has saved us and
covered our sins – be they careless errors or outright defiance. We plead with
You for the hearts of our children. Please grow them in Your grace and in the
knowledge of Your Son. Build Your truth into their lives for Your glory.
We ask in faith and in the name of our wonderful Lord, Your
Son Jesus Christ.
