Teamwork works, even for personal Scripture memorization.
Call it encouragement, peer pressure, or team spirit. Hey, if Bible memory is
easier when we learn verses collectively, why knock it?
“Therefore
encourage one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:18, NIV)
Lots of believers try this tactic, from small groups to
entire church congregations. Our church, for example, offers free stacks of
Bible memory cards each year. These include all of the weekly suggested verses,
which correspond to the pastoral sermon series.
Some families learn Bible verses together, reciting
Scriptures at the supper table, in the car, or at kids’ bedtimes. As elementary
school students, my kids were required to memorize several passages for their Christian
school classes. That meant I grew to know those sections – right along with
them.
I have to admit it was sort of fun to quiz one another, as
we practiced those Scriptures together.
