Promise to a Patriarch
(Genesis 12-14)
How many of us have asked God to show us His will for our lives? Are we willing to accept the call, if He should issue it? Perhaps He already has.
"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."
Abram Leaving Ur

A Call to Blessing
The Lord called Abram to leave his home,
Pack up his clan and begin to roam –
No destination to map his way
But just to follow, to trust, obey.
No sons or daughters or family tree,
Yet Abram and Sarai held guarantee.
The Lord’s own promise made it so
To build a nation and grace bestow.
Thus, all who bless His chosen race
May come to God to plead their case.
And all who call His Name their own
May join His people at His throne.

What a marvelous God! The Lord is the covenant-maker, the promise-keeper and the One we may trust. Others may fail us, and folks may defraud us. But God is truth.
“God is not a man, that He should lie,
nor a son of man, that He should change his mind.
Does He speak and then not act?
Does He promise and not fulfill?”
“But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever,
the purposes of His heart through all generations.”
God delights in the impossible.
How He longs to increase our faith by proving it when we face situations that stretch beyond our own means. Will we invite God to change our plans, our direction or even our name? Abram obeyed the Lord, and God built an eternal legacy from his life. Even the Lord Jesus arose from his familial line.
God is truth. His Word is truth. His very nature is truth. Will we trust Him today?
Will you pray with me?
Lord of Lords,
God of truth,
Help us to recall Your faithfulness
Throughout history.
Remind us of the countless times
You have walked with us
Throughout our own lives.
Grow our faith,
For You are faithful.
Build our trust in You,
For You are trustworthy.
Amen.
