Fine fathers deserve fanfare, and Father’s Day serves as an annual reminder.
Still, sometimes
I find Father’s Day a bit frustrating and ironic.
Maybe it’s because
genuinely great dads merit honor all year round – not just on the third Sunday
in June.
Perhaps it’s
because the celebration of Father’s Day seems to imply all fathers do.
Possibly, it’s because folks seem to trumpet the apparent perfection of their
paternal figures on this day – as if every dad were Superman or the paragon of
parenthood.
Clearly,
that’s not always the case.
I am blessed to
have a loving, loyal, virtuous father. My dad is a man of integrity and honor. I
have never questioned his character, and respect for him has always come
easily. He deserves it.
The righteous
who walks in his integrity –
blessed are his
children after him.
(Proverbs 20:7,
ESV)
Happy Father’s
Day!
