Seriously, my small
group is hilarious. OK, we have our share of meaty Bible study lessons, deep
discussions, and intense personal sharing.
But these ladies
are fabulously funny. The group includes a charismatic Catholic, an
Evangelical, a couple of Methodists, a pair of Pentecostals, and a
Presbyterian. We cover all sorts of topics with bluntness and honesty, baring
our souls each week and respecting one another’s unique perspective.
These
sweet friends are all sincerely spiritual, but they are also side-splittingly
and riotously entertaining.
It’s invigorating!
And invariably,
someone will burst out laughing and set us all to chuckling and chortling until
somebody snorts. Then it gets worse, but in such a mirthful way.
We call it “The Anoinking.” And we are abundantly blessed.
A couple of weeks
ago, we had a lesson on sadness. By the end of the morning, we were all crying –
with laughter. Clearly, we had all been released from whatever stuff our souls
had carried into the meeting.
God is good. And I
am pretty convinced He has a particularly good time on Thursday mornings.
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter
and your lips with shouts of joy.
(Job 8:21, NIV)
