Sometimes we find ourselves frozen by fear or daunted by distress. In those moments, to what Scriptures can we turn for comfort?
Our awesome God trumps all our fears.
We love to sing about how awesome our God is. Frankly, we tend to tag nearly anything we like as “awesome,” making this nearly a throw-away term.
What does awesome really mean?
Here are 30 synonyms for “awesome.” Not all of these words match the meaning exactly, but perhaps these will give us pause for thought.

Essentially, “awesome” means “awe-inspiring.” It’s that stop-you-in-your-tracks and take-your-breath-away feeling.
When we consider the character of God, that description fits Him like no other. And, if we really do carry a sense of awe before God, then perhaps fear will finally flee. Oh, how I need such a reminder often, when I try to look for courage on my own!
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord.(Psalm 27:14, KJV)The Lord is my Light and my Salvation -- whom shall I fear or dread? The Lord is the Refuge and Stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?(Psalm 27:1, KJV)
