Today’s Bible readings represent a veritable roundup of regulations for God’s people. These statutes range from instructions for poverty relief to rules of siege and warfare. Many are practical pointers for survival and perpetuation of provision, such as the Lord’s instructions regarding preserving mother birds and fruit trees.

Certainly, God outlined His emphasis on charitable outreach to the poor and needy among His people. In particular, He focused on widows, orphans and aliens without means of supporting themselves.

Today, we face troubled economic times. Many families and individuals struggle to pay their bills each month. Investments and employment are uncertain.

Only the Lord remains constant. Jehovah Jireh is our Provider. God Almighty is our shepherd and sustainer.

What do we need from the Lord today? How has He provided for us today? How might He be calling us to meet the needs of others in His Name?

Will you pray with me?

Mighty and wondrous One,
High Lord of Hosts,
We thank You
For the many ways
You supply and sustain us daily.
We offer You
The needs we face
And all of our worries
About tomorrow.
We trust You
To guide us
And to continue
Feeding our bodies, minds and souls.
Reveal to us
Where we may offer
What You have given us
Back into Your service.
We rest in Your hands.
Amen.
